Stephen Winchcomb(e)

c1812-1888

 

Stephen was born in Wiltshire he was baptised on the 5th July 1812 in Chilton Foliat Wiltshire and was the son of William and Elizabeth Winchcomb (nee Hunt) who were married in Chilton Foliat in 1799.

Stephen (surname recorded as Winskom) married Mary Ann Pike on the 8th May 1835 in Chilton Foliat and they had the following children:

Jane c1836

Maria c1838 (died 1840)

Elizabeth c1840

Walter 1846 (died 1848)

Ann c1855

Census records record Stephen as a Labourer (1841), Agricultural Labourer (1851) and a Shepherd (1871 and 1881).

In both the 1841 and 1851 census the family were recorded living in Chilton Foliat.

In the 1871 census Stephen and Mary were recorded living in Leverton Road Eddington (0.8 miles from Hungerford). 

In 1881 Stephen was again recorded living in Leverton Road. Mary was recorded as a boarder in the Hungerford Workhouse.

Mary Ann died aged 75 in 1887 in Hungerford

Stephen died on the 7th March 1888 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 9th March.
