Jeremiah Knapp

c1821-1888

Jeremiah was born in Berkshire he was baptised on the 7th February 1821 in Great Bedwyn and was the son of Thomas and Ann Knapp (nee Dangerfield) who were married in Marlborough on the 14th June 1802. Thomas was born c1774 in Little Bedwyn and was a Blacksmith. Ann was born in Marlborough c1777.

Thomas and Ann also had the following children:

Harriet baptised 30th July 1803 Marlborough

Eliza baptised 15th July 1805 Great Bedwyn

Thomasin baptised 19th Feb 1809 Great Bedwyn

George baptised 17th Feb 1811 Great Bedwyn

Charles baptised 4th Feb 1813 Great Bedwyn

James baptised 10th March 1816 Great Bedwyn

William baptised 11th March 1818 Great Bedwyn

 

Jeremiah was an Agricultural Labourer he only seems to be recorded on the 1861 and 1881 census   records. In 1861 he was recorded as married (wife recorded as Elizabeth aged 26 born Bridgenorth Shropshire) living in Upper Arley, Staffordshire. In 1881 he was recorded as: Married, Farm Labourer, Boarder, in the Hungerford Workhouse.

Jeremiah died aged 68 on the 22nd January 1888 in the Newbury Workhouse he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the on the 25th January.
