James Goatley
c1815-1888
James was born in Inkpen Berkshire he was the son of George and Mary Goatley (nee Benskin) who were married in Inkpen on the 14th October 1811. George was an Agricultural Labourer.
In 1841 James was living in Inkpen and was working as a Male Servant.
James married Eliza Looker (born c1825 in Mildenhall) on the 12th July 1845 in Mildenhall Wiltshire and at this time he was living in Mildenhall, working as a labourer.
James and Eliza had the following children (all births registered in Hungerford):

Tom 1861
The family lived in Inkpen (Field Barn 1851), and (Upper Green 1861)
Eliza died aged 46 in 1869 she was buried on the 3rd December at St Laurence West Woodhay.
In the 1871 census James and the children were recorded living at Highwood Cottages West Woodhay, James was working as a Farm Labourer.
The 1881 census records James as a Rick Thatcher he was recorded as a Boarder in Greenham Mills Greenham, head of the household was a William Smith, a Fellmonger.
James died aged 73 on the 2nd March 1888 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th March.
