c1830-1861

Mary was born in Newbury she was the daughter of Ebenezer and Ann Cannings (nee Smith) who were married on the 2nd February 1829 at St Mary’s Thatcham (both were from Greenham). Ebenezer was a Tailor he was born c1806 in Newbury and Ann was born c1809.

Ebenezer and Ann also had the following children:

Elizabeth c1841

Sarah c1843

Phillipina 1845

Esther 1847

Ebenezer c1850

Kate c1852

 

Mary Ann was a Dressmaker she never married but had a least 3 children: Henry c1850 born in Hungerford, Harry c1856 and Kate c1860 both born in Newbury.

The 1841 census records Mary (10) living in Trafalgar Place Newbury with her parents and siblings.

 In 1851 Mary and her son Henry (8 months) were recorded as visitors in the household of William and Eliza Fisher in Newtown Hungerford.

The 1861 census records Mary living at Simmon’s Yard Newbury with her children Harry (5) and Kate (1) also living with her at this time was her sister Elizabeth 20) who was also a Dressmaker.

 

Mary died aged 30 in 1861 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th August.
