Fanny Portsmore
1843-1861
Fanny was born in Kintbury Berkshire she was the daughter of William and Martha Portsmore (nee Jennings). William worked as a Plumber, Glazier and Painter, he was born c1815 in Hampstead Marshall and at the time of his marriage he was living in Kintbury. Martha was born c1813 in Marlborough Wiltshire.
Fanny’s parents were married on the 11th June 1840 at St Mary the Virgin Marlborough. Martha was a widow when she married William. Her 1st husband was Thomas Jefferies they married on the 2nd March 1835 at St Mary the Virgin Marlborough. Thomas died aged 22 the following year he was buried on the 11th April 1836 at St Mary the Virgin Marlborough.
William and Martha also had the following children:
Anna Maria c1841 (died aged 17 in 1857 buried in the NRC on the18th December)

In 1841 William, Martha and their daughter Anna were living in the village of Kintbury Berkshire.
The 1851 census records William (36) living in Caroline Place Newbury with his children, Anna (10), Martha (8), Fanny (7), Edwin J (5), Elizabeth (4) and Emma (2). Martha and her daughter Rosa (8 months) were recorded in this census in the household of Martha’s sister Anna (Hannah) Jennings (29) in New Road Marlborough, also recorded in this household were Martha’s brother James (27) and her mother Elizabeth (70).
The 1861 census records William (46), Martha (48) and their children, Martha (18), Fanny (17), Edwin (15) and Rosa (10) living in Parr’s Yard (off Northbrook Street) Newbury.
Fanny died aged 17 in 1861 she was laid to rest in the Newtown road cemetery on the 30th July.
Fanny’s father died aged 55 in 1868 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24th November.
Fanny’s mother died in 1873 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th February.
