Thomas Richmond was born in Newbury he was baptised on the 21st October 1802 at St Nicolas Church Newbury and was the son of William and Sarah Richmond.

Thomas was an Agricultural Labourer. In 1841 he was living in Castle House, Shaw-cum-Donnington with his wife Lucy and their children Betsy (15), John (12), George (9), Joseph (7), Helen (6), Maria (3) and Mary (2).

Sometime between 1841 and 1851 Thomas and Lucy separated as in 1851 Thomas was recorded as unmarried, a lodger, aged 50, living in Nutley’s Yard Bartholomew Street Newbury and Lucy was recorded as married, living in Darr’s Yard Newbury working as a Brickmaker, also living in the household was a lodger, George Lawrence.

In 1861 Lucy was again recorded as married, she was still living in Darr’s Yard but was working as a Laundress, George Lawrence was still lodging with her. Thomas (63) was recorded as married and was lodging in the City Newbury.

Thomas died on the 1st October 1862 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th October.

Lucy married her lodger George Lawrence on the 25th December 1862.

Note: Thomas’ surname has been mistakenly recorded as Rickman on the burial records.
