Elizabeth Martha Houston

1878-1905

 

Elizabeth Martha was born in Newbury she was the daughter of John and Mary Jane Eggleton (nee Millicent) who married in Newbury in 1864. John was born c1838 in Chieveley and Mary Jane (aka Jane) was born in Newbury in 1838. (Mary Jane had a daughter Ellen Fanny Millicent in 1861 before she married)

John was a Tailor and the family lived in Hazell’s Yard (1871), 7 Ashdon Court (1881, in the census for this year John was recorded as a cripple), 58 Bartholomew Street (1891), Prospect Place (1901) and 2 Bartholomew Almshouses Newtown Road (1911)

Elizabeth was recorded living with her parents in 1881 and 1891 (no occupation recorded for her in either of the census years). She married Alfred Carmichael Houston in 1903 in South Stoneham Hampshire and they had a daughter, Millicent Martha born in Southampton in 1904 (birth registered in South Stoneham).

Elizabeth Martha Houston died aged 25 on the 20th December 1905 in the Royal Hospital Southampton.  She was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 23rd December and was recorded as Lizzie on the Memorial Inscription with her parents John and Mary Jane Eggleton.

 Elizabeth’s daughter Millicent Martha was recorded (as Niece) living with her Aunt, Mary Ann Stephens (nee Eggleton) and her family in North Villa Kings Road Newbury in 1911.
