Robert Enies

c1791-1862

 

Robert was born in Newbury Berkshire.

In the 1841 census Robert was recorded as a Labourer, living in the City Newbury, also recorded living in the same household were Elizabeth aged 25 (not born in County) and James aged 40, occupation, Blacksmith. (Ancestry has the surname recorded as Emma)

Elizabeth was born c1815 in East Woodhay Hampshire she has two sons before she married in 1847 both boys were born in Newbury, William Joyce born 1842 and Samuel Joyce born 1846.

Other children of Robert & Elizabeth were:

Sarah Ann born 1851 (surname recorded as Ennis)

Mary born 1853 (surname recorded as Enies)

Robert born 1855 (surname recorded as Enies)

In 1851 the family were living in Bartholomew Street and Robert was working as a Bricklayer’s Labourer (surname recorded as Emes)

The 1861 census records Robert Enies as a 71 year old widower working as an Agricultural Labourer, still living in Bartholomew Street.

Robert Enies died aged 70 in 1862 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the17th April.

Although Robert was recorded as a widower in 1861 his wife Elizabeth didn’t died until 1889. In 1881 she was recorded as a patient in the Berkshire Lunatic Asylum in Cholsey, the following newspaper articles relate to her:
